Priska Neely Named Senior Editor for Marketplace Local
Priska Neely has been named senior editor, station engagement for Marketplace.
Neely will lead Marketplace Local, the new initiative that leverages support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to expand Marketplace’s existing station collaborations and accelerate a broader network that strengthens local economic reporting capacity and boosts local stations’ digital engagement.
“Priska’s editorial experience, station knowledge, relationship-building and commitment to helping journalists do their best work make her the perfect fit for Marketplace Local,” said Neal Scarbrough, Marketplace vice president and general manager.
Most recently, Neely served as training manager at Report for America, where she led training programs for local journalists and newsrooms and developed resources to support newsroom leaders and reporters.
Before that, she spent more than four years as the managing editor of NPR's Gulf States Newsroom, where she built a regional newsroom from the ground up — hiring, training and managing a team of reporters and editors working with public radio stations across Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. She developed systems for distributing stories to station and network partners and launched the weekly Gulf States Gumbo podcast. Neely describes that work as building bridges — connecting station leadership, national networks, desks, and shows with local reporters.
Neely has also held reporting and producing roles at Reveal, KPCC/LAist and NPR, where she worked on Talk of the Nation and Weekend All Things Considered. At KPCC, she also helped pioneer the newsroom’s community engagement efforts. Her public media leadership includes service on the board of the Public Media Journalists Association, including two years as president.
“Priska is well-known and highly regarded. As APM builds the future of public media with stations, we are excited for the deeper collaborations and connections her work with Marketplace Local will foster,” said APM President Chandra Kavati.
Neely starts her new role next month and will work remotely from Birmingham, Alabama. The first Marketplace Local station cohorts will be announced soon.
