In Deep: One City's Year of Climate Chaos

About the Program

In summer and fall of 2020, amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic, two hurricanes hit Lake Charles in short succession. That winter, the city was hobbled by an ice storm, and just a few months later, devastating flooding killed several people and left many stranded in their cars, fearing for their lives.

Our program will put these events into context through the lenses of climate change and equity. Climate change doesn’t affect everyone equally. As storms and other calamities fueled by a warming climate devastate cities with growing frequency, the trauma and burdens will be increasingly suffered by poor people and, in many places, disproportionately people of color.
